Sorbchem India's OxySorb is designed primarily to prolong the shelf life of food products. It prevents the change of color in food products, stops oil from becoming rancid, and prevents the growth of oxygen-using aerobic microorganisms such as fungi. Oxygen supports the growth of microorganisms and causes a change in color and rancid odor in packaged foods. OxySorb absorbs oxygen and effectively reduces the aerobic environment to 0.01% oxygen, making it impossible for aerobic bacteria and fungi to grow. This process extends the shelf life of food products drastically.
Oxysorb is made of PET material packaging and contains a mixture of iron powder salt, and bentonite clay that effectively absorbs excess oxygen from the surroundings and efficiently traps it inside to keep the packaging clean and dry during storage and transit.
The type of packaging and the food bag/container seal are crucial for the oxygen absorber's effectiveness. A minor packaging fault or leak can render the oxygen absorber useless, and the content inside the package may perish. Thus, a high barrier package (with a low oxygen transmission rate), such as Mylar bags, and efficient seal techniques need to be employed. When used with proper packaging and sealing, the oxygen in the packaging is significantly reduced. OxySorb brings the oxygen level down reliably to 0.01% or less.
